How The Unicorns Relate to Me…

This poem means to me that during summer, anything is possible and you are free to do whatever it is that you want to do. In this poem the author describes some of the most memorable moments from their summer. In the end, the author says, “During that sumer which may never have been at all’ but which has become more real than the one that was” that means to me that even though the summer is over and you start to doubt it, you think about all of the past memories and everything becomes more real because you want that time back so much more than when you had it. This relates to my summers at Camp Greystone, my home away from home. Here is where I have some of the most life changing experiences of my life, rejoining with friends on opening day, waking to the smell of homecooked breakfast, going to flag and leaving for classes, rest period, more fun, dinner and insanely fun assembly’s meanwhile coming closer to god at the end of each night. You feel like you have done something for someone at the end of the day when you decide to share a devotion or when you are writing letters to home. I understand this poem because I understand how unicorns still feel real when you are in a place so unreal and carefree.

Fluoride….Good or Bad?

Some people disapprove of adding fluoride to drinking water because, in a simple way of explaining, many think that it is making the water “artificial”.  Others believe that fluoridation of water has not been shown to reduce incidence of cavities, but they do believe in topical fluoride (the stuff in toothpaste, etc.) because it has been shown to work . Some are worried because they know that the fluoride, which has been put in our water today, won’t just disappear tomorrow . This is a worry because Fluoride is poisonous.
Only low amounts have been shown so far that have detrimental effects on people and pets that ingest it I don’t believe that adding fluoride to drinking water is a bad thing to do, but I don’t really think that it is necessary. Fluoride is already in your toothpaste, mouthwash, etc. and you don’t need a little extra “boost” of fluoride to make your teeth stronger.
Our teeth were made to function on their own without all of these unnecessary chemicals. Adding fluoride to water isn’t bad, it just may someday be bad because of how much we consume it. Just like an antibiotic you receive from the doctor, fluoride will work the first few times but after you have had too much fluoride, will it stop working for your teeth? The technological advances in toothpaste that were made before fluoride could be widely used in toothpaste and mouthwashes were discovering a fluoride-abrasive combination that worked when pairing stannous fluoride with calcium pyrophosphate. The effects of using fluoride in drinking water that concern me most are that there is a greater increase of hip fractures (other bones too), cancer, and premature hardening of the arteries.
These three things are of major concern to me because hip fractures can turn into a life long pain and a lot of on-going surgeries. Cancer is what I am most scared of because it can be a life time long term effect or just a short term effect, it can also come back, or kill you as soon as you get it! Hardening of the arteries concerns me because if your arteries harden, then it will be harder for blood to pump through them and reach the heart, which could cause varies of heart attacks!
